Since you're here...(ATTN: new arrivals from Eastern)

"A bronze-!" he had been about to say 'weyrling' but he stopped. Z'ash realized that he had almost indulged an outburst and he swallowed hard. Giving one long blink, he opened his brown eyes and focused on Anjelie.

"A bronzerider who is still very young. The youngest, I'm all too aware. Jah'vi, I'zak. They're the leaders and with time, I hope to become as fine a bronzerider as they are. " Z'ash said and offered a smile. He turned to Gwin and softly put a hand on her shoulder. He squeezed encouragingly.

"See, not so bad. I think she's fair and that will go well for all of us." Z'ash said. Then his brown eyes flicked to J'ril and he looked down so that the hard line of his mouth was less obvious.

'Well, most of us.' he thought.

"Well met, I'zak." T'kal offered as the bronzerider appeared. He was relieved really, since Jah'vi had yet to make an appearance.

Gwin swallowed and nodded. "She is being more than fair," the greenrider offered, a little shyly, as if she were unsure (either of what she was saying, or that she had a right to say it. Likely both). She managed a smile for Z'ash though, feeling almost back to normal for the first time in such a long time.

I'zak gave a bit of a bow Z'ash's way. "Hail, Manticath's rider," he said with the same half-grin. "Keeping everything in order here?" The tease was good natured, though the look he gave J'ril's back as the brownrider moved toward the Weyrleader was not quite as light.

"Brownrider," Sidran replied levelly, gesturing that he could sit. J'ril, it turned out, was easy to recognize - he'd never been shy about making his feelings of the newer colors clear. "How is Treyath settling in?"

He didn't want to sit, shard it.  He didn't want to go through the pleasantries, either.  He wanted this meeting over with as soon as possible-- but he likely wasn't going to get what he wanted.  At least not at this point, anyway.

Sliding into the spot across from the cobaltrider, J'ril sat stiffly, his back straight and his hands resting on the table-- even if they were almost clenched into fists.  "Treyath is fine."  The brown was, in fact, enjoying catching up with his clutchmates, sharing his sadness at the loss of so many others back at Eastern.  He was probably cuddling with one or two of them right now-- and J'ril really hoped it wasn't one of the mutants.

"Good." She nodded and picked up her stylus. "Give me your assessment of his strengths and weaknesses in the air, and you can be on your way." Straightforward, neutral. Sidran knew who she was talking to, and had no interest in causing a scene. Or, rather, being the cause of one. Nuance, there, perhaps.

It was an easy enough question, but J'ril didn't believe for a moment his words would be taken at face value.  Had he been dealing with one of the bronzeriders, maybe, but Sidran wasn't one-- she'd Impressed a cobalt, like his sharding cousin, and she was equally as likely to be untrustworthy.

"Treyath is steady, good at keeping to his own airspace and position in formations."  To a point, anyway.  There were times the brown let his competitive streak or excitement get the better of him and made mistakes.  But his rider wasn't about to admit that at the moment.  Not when knew the words could be turned around and twisted into something entirely other than what he said.

"Good. Wing anchors are invaluable. Any stamina notes, old injuries, favors a side?" Sidran jotted her careful notes in her shorthand, glancing up with a perfectly professional expression. Of course every dragon had their own quirks, and they'd be plain to see within the first few drills. Better to have in mind in forming the wings to start with, but nothing to say the assignments had to stay as they started, once she had a chance to see everything in action.

Old injuries?  No.  Scars, certainly, and Treyath's hide had to be oiled a little bit more often in one particularly large patch on his hindquarters.  But the muscle and bone beneath had healed well after their bout with Thread, and J'ril was proud of that fact.  Not that his brown would have let the injury keep him down if it had been far worse, though.  It wasn't in him to give up so easily.

"No," was all the cobaltrider received in response, J'ril hoping it would spawn no further questions and the interview would be over.

Z'ash colored a bit around his cheeks and temples but he refused to look away. He managed a wry smile and nodded his head. "Good day, I'zak. You seem in high spirits. I trust all is well?"

The young bronzerider made an attempt to stand up straight; he was already short by nature and slouching did not help anyone see him as the full rider he was. Perhaps the youngest but what he lacked in age he could surely make up for in serious, intellectual worth. Right?

"Interesting," Sidran replied to J'ril, expression still perfectly neutral. "I look forward to seeing his performance in the air. Dismissed, brownrider." She found herself unsurprised this particular rider had chosen to share nothing of his abilities or quirks - there was no way even J'ril was unobservant enough not to know such basic things about his own dragon, but of course it would all come out in drills. No need to beat a rotting runner here and now.

"Well as can be, Z'ash, wouldn't you say? We take what we can in this new world we're left. Might as well be thankful for what there is, rather than get sour as old wine in the sun." I'zak grinned his partly sardonic grin and shrugged. He'd gone a bit mad there, in the end, and who was to say he wasn't still? Probably the best reaction to what the world had brought them.

The brownrider's eyes narrowed faintly at Sidran's word choice.  He doubted she believed him, but when she put up no argument, he wasn't about to expand on the topic himself.  

It likely would have amused the cobaltrider, or someone else, that his thoughts paralleled hers-- it would all come out in drills, and she would see just how fine a flyer Treyath was.  Until then, it seemed his presence was no longer needed.

Pushing to his feet, J'ril tilted his head to the minimum required level, so as not to be blatantly disrespectful.  It wouldn't do to tick her off completely just yet, not when he was among the newcomers to the territory.  Better to wait until he had a better understanding of how things worked here.  And then… all bets might be off.
