Physical Description: Hair: Red

Kalabria is thin, reed like, and looks like she could topple over if a strong gust of wind hit her. She isn't muscular or curvaceous and probably never will be. Of all her sisters her metabolism seems to be the fastest though the reality is, Kalabria can get so caught up in whatever she is doing that she forgets about eating. Pale skin is easily burnt in the sun, so she doesn't spend much of her time outside.
She has a roundish face, small thin lips and round blue eyes. She tends to walk as if in a hurry. Often distracted, she easily walks into things and people. Kalabria prefers to wear clothes that make sense for the task at hand but given the choice, she would definitely take comfort over fashion. However if her job required her to wear nicer more fashionable clothing, she would do so.

Personality:Kalabria is intelligent, a problem solver who thinks independently from other people. She is not easily swayed by emotion and tends instead to rely on logic and physical evidence or proof to support her opinions. Naturally she wants to investigate new things and make her own opinions of them before someone else tries to shove their opinion her way. Kala has no problem listening to other people or their point of views. In fact she is fairly easy to talk to and an active listener. She can be a little quiet, more an observant person than someone who engages in debate. Noticing the little things tends to give her more of a reputation as a know it all, when really she is just being more observant than most people.
Attention to detail is important to her. She can tell if something is off before another person. This is a great help in problem solving. She hates not being able to solve puzzles but takes great pride in accomplishing the unsolvable. In her mind, there must be an answer to every problem. Anything can be solved. When she is deep in thought or trying to work out a problem she can be so focused that nothing else exists for her which tends to allow her to solve problems quickly and without distraction. But it also means she neglects to care for herself. Sometimes the way forward is taking a step back. She often has to be reminded that their is more to life than her projects.
Patient as she is, she can also be stubborn and headstrong. Her willfulness obviously comes from her father though she has never gone against him entirely. She has been the only one to convince him there is more to life for her than a future in dragonriding. Kalabria doesn't give up and she never gives in. She will fight for what she wants or what she sees as right. Even if she cannot do so by up front means.
Kalabria may be quiet and a little bit cautious in how she approaches life. There is a diplomat inside of her that seems to know when to say something and when not to, what to speak when it is necessary to do so and what to keep to herself. So it isn't much of a surprise that she has secrets. Nor that she keeps them to herself. What is a little bit of a shock is when she chooses to use the information she has for her own gain, which comes off as a bit under handed, a little manipulative. She isn't a bad person but she does have her own desires and her own plans and she will use what she has in her arsenal to achieve her own ends.
As a dragon healer, she is also very compassionate toward the riders and their dragons. She cares about other people. She sees when they are suffering and when they are emotionally drained and she can feel badly for them but she is not as empathetic as some. She doesn't really try to feel their pain so much as solve the problem that has resulted in their pain. Kalabria is a hard worker. She would never shirk her chores, even if they are not chores she would like to do. If she really doesn't want to do something she'll swap with someone else who doesn't mind a trade or who owes her. She can be kind toward people less fortunate than herself.
As one of the youngest in her family, she has always loved and looked up to her siblings. Because of this, she has taken the rift between them pretty hard. She blames herself at times for not speaking out against their father but then she wouldn't want to lose her other siblings just for Kyabree. She feels that they have put her into a difficult position as she had been closer to Kyabree than her eldest two siblings. Right now she is at a loss for how to bring them all together again but she misses being around her family without feeling like something is missing. Kyabree was the burning heart of their family and they cut her out. That was how Kalabria felt about it. No one loved them all as indiscriminately or fought for them as vehemently as she did and they had cast her out. Kalabria would feel badly about this forever. It is probably safe to say that she would do almost anything to have her family together and whole again.
When it comes to non-familial relationships, Kalabria is kind of a loner. She doesn't really fit in with her peers. She is more likely to have one or two really close friends than a whole slew of people who know her just a little bit. As for romantic relationships, she isn't really there yet. She would need time to get to know someone before she let herself even close to becoming romantic with them. It is likely that she is pansexual and will not be attracted to a person without having some kind of emotional connection first.
The mutated dragons are the biggest puzzle there is. She wants to know the how, the why of their existence. There are many ideas flitting around her mind. They are part of the reason she became a dragon healer. She secretly finds them fascinating and now that they are no longer at Eastern, she would like nothing more than to go to White Lightning Weyr so that she might study them. (so she can completely geek out over them too!)

History:
Kalabria is the sixth of seven children born to a bluerider and his weyrmate at Eastern Weyr. Next to her more outgoing and boisterous siblings, she can seem quite shy and reserved. But she was also very observant and picked up on the little things even from a very young age. As such she learned things quickly and began to talk very early. She skipped crawling and went straight to walking at about a Turn old. Nevertheless, she was considered by her mother to be rather intelligent. Even then she had a vocabulary range outside that of her siblings when they were her age and she tended to be able to string words together into sentences sooner than expected.
Needless to say, her father and mother began to have expectations of her that were greater than the other children at her age. When she began lessons with the Weyrharper, she was Turns ahead of her peers and often got bored with the usual lessons. In time she also grew tired of the silly games other children her age played. Instead she spent time with her older siblings, even on occasion, Kyabree though she didn't associate with her much because she got into so much trouble.
She was nine, as this was before her tenth birthingday, when the strange clutch containing the first of the mutated dragons hatched.(P10.41.1.5 ) Kalabria hid her wonderment at the new colors and what it might mean for Pern. Because of this, she began to think about joining Dragon Healing as a craft.
At ten she begins to "help out" at the dragon infirmary. Although technically she has apprenticed herself, she does not tell her family about it right away. She began the conversation with, "so you know I've been helping out at the Dragon Infirmary. Well they said I have a real talent for it. And you know, it might be helpful to know more about dragons than the average Candidate when it comes time to Stand..."
Her father, much to the surprise of everyone else in the family agreed. Of course only Kalabria would have been able to pull that off because no one thought like her. And honestly she was so studious that her father had probably already been thinking about her being part of a craft. She had the determination to seek it out for herself and the patience to wait to tell them until she was certain.
Her father while extremely against his children Standing for the mutant Queen's clutches, has no choice but to sit back and watch them do just that. His only consolation being that Kyabree got herself barred from Standing that Turn. Unfortunately Candidates were to Stand for every Clutch. Kalabria watched in anticipation, would her brother and sister Impress something new? She was actually slightly disappointed that in a clutch full of mutants, they Impressed the only brown and the only green but her father's joy was far beyond anything she could feel. She'd never seen him so happy and so she kept her thoughts to herself. (P10.43.4.15)
Kalabria wasn't old enough to Stand when Kyabree finally Impressed. If one examined her sister's personality it couldn't be that big of a shock to know she suited a scarlet dragon. Hiding her inner excitement she clapped with the crowd but didn't overdo it. In fact once her father shot her a glance that said she'd better not even think about cheering, she stopped. She loved her sister but she knew better than to disobey her father openly.
When the last of the mutated dragons graduated and they were sent away, Kalabria was sad. Not just to lose them as a whole but to lose her sister as well. There were some qualities in Kyabree she truly admired and she would always love her. It was hard on their mother, not knowing what was going on in Kya's life and she had to watch her own mother's heart breaking at not being able to contact her child. She didn't want to do that to her too but at the same time, she was fourteen and old enough to Stand. Her interest in the mutations made it only natural for her to want to leave Eastern and go live at White Lightning.
At this point she is torn between losing her family or losing her passion. It was at this point that her brother, Shyorien, approached her about his thoughts concerning Kyabree and the other exiled riders. He wanted to go find her, he didn't want her to be alone over there. Meanwhile, Kalabria saw this moment as her opportunity, maybe she should go. Maybe that was what she was meant to do? With the wheels in her mind turning, she decides they should go. As they discuss how to get smuggled out, their other brother, Keldesh, overhears and asks to come along. Surprised by his sudden interest but not one to make the decision for him, they agree.
