Mating Flight: Ruby Rising (Attn: All male dragons)

Why hello Hesriath cooed a familiar voice, just as a bronze dragon appeared above the new Weyr, bugling a welcome to his brothers and sisters. The long, lean dragon glided down near Ashrah's weyr entrance and, with a snap of his wings, smartly landed in a show of skill.

"You almost gave me whiplash," the man on his back complained, unclipping his harness and sliding off the bronze neck. "Make it worth it, my boy." He gave his bronze a slap on the side before moving out of the way so he could leap into the air.

He approached Ashrah, removing his helmet as he walked, and revealing the grinning face of Br'son's clutchmath Jah'vi. He shook his strawberry blonde hair out. "Ashrah," he exclaimed in mock surprise. "Imagine finding you here!"

"Jah'vi!" Ashrah exclaimed, her breath running out in a small sigh. Her green eyes went to the bronze dragon who shimmered in the bright sun; she was surprise to find how she had missed the rainbow of dragons that had been at Eastern Weyr. Her expression of surprise grew to dizzying pleasure as another familiar note cut the morning air.

Hesriath, ruby comet of the jealous sky!

A blue dragon seeming all the shades of the ocean dropped from the sky, barely touching ground as a handsome, dark haired man slipped from the saddle. T'kal brushed his jacket and waved to the bronzerider he immediately knew for one of his fellows. Whatever greeting the Weyrsinger had for either Jah'vi or Ashrah died on his lips as a savage bellow rent the serenity of the morning. The shadow fell over the three riders as Maraxith sliced through the sky after Nolinth and Thortoth.

You poach where you have no right, though it will matter not a wit in the end.

Casriel appeared moments later, her blond hair up in a high ponytail and her hands rested on her hips when she came to a start. She immediately recognized the bronze rider from Br'sons class; Casriel had sized up a great list of whos who of possible contenders for Parazath and Yllaveth a long time ago. She boldly winked at Ashrah who nodded coolly. She looked at both Jah'vi and T'kal the way a big feline does a calf outside the herd. The cobalt rider suppressed the urge to chuckle

Hesriath was pleased with the general turn out and checked her red wings to soar high into the thermal range. The wind was high that morning and it blew over her in firm caresses that made the scarlet croon in pleasure.

Enough talk! Fly! Hesriath called and her clear bugle sounded across the sky.

Jah'vi just grinned and gave Ashrah a big hug, lifting her off the ground. "You've all been missed," he said sincerely, smiling as T'kal approached. He would have said more but the dark shadow that passed took his attention upwards.

He waved his arm in greeting to Maraxith, his smile almost splitting his face. All the colors against the sky brought back the best memories of his life: training with his classmates, their first flights... he spoke the truth when he told Ashrah they had been missed by many. To him and Nolinth, the skies at Eastern were achingly incomplete.

"Great to see you, Casriel," winking flirtatiously at the colbat rider. "We were just passing by and thought we'd surprise all of you." He smiled innocently at the woman, his blue eyes twinkling with mischief.

Oh, do not pretend you did not miss me! Nolinth answered Maraxith, his voice filled with mischief and amusement like his rider. Not nearly as aggressive as the cobalts in his class, Nolinth was well known for his humor and occasional down right silliness.

But he was still a male dragon, and Hesriath's demands took precedence. He warbled an answer to her and arched his lean body upwards, following the streak of ruby across the sky. I have missed you Hesriath! he called to her in a sing song voice.

Ashrah gasped and then laughed, leaning her head back and completely taken with the high rising feelings of the mounting mating flight. This is what life was suppose to be, all of them together. Bronzes did not see the differences between scarlet and green when the passions ran high. Bronzes, Cobalts, and Blues were all contenders with the own set of strengths. Made to compliment each other, not cancel each other out.

"It is good to see you, Jah'vi. And you, T'kal." Ashrah said, her pleasure running a little sultry as she spoke. Casriel grinned sharply, looking them all. She was taken by their pleasure in each other but nothing could sooth the sting of their exile. Maybe they could not help it. Jah'vi, for all he rode a bronze was not the Weyrleader of Eastern. For all that T'kal was a well known, well loved Weyrsinger,, he only rode a blue. How could they have stopped their exile?

'And still they come where their presence in a slap in all our faces.' Casriel thought. Never mind it all and her turquoise eyes turned skyward to watch the fading black dot of her cobalt Maraxith devouring the ground behind T'kals blue Thortoth.

Maraxith for his part said nothing but his eyes whirled murderous red and streak orange with purple. Hesriath chortled for all the males were beautiful in her eyes and banked for cloud cover. Her call tantalized the cobalt and blue dragons; Thortoth redoubled his efforts to close the gap between himself and the glorious scarlet dragon.

Jah'vi would have said more to Casriel, who was quite possibly his favorite of the cobalt riders (she so perfectly complimented her dragon, how could one not adore her?), but Nolinth kept pulling his attention skywards. The addition of Maraxith to the mix had caused the bronze to focus on stretching his wings; he was well aware that the older dragon was a difficult opponent in the air, and Thortoth was far too wiley to be counted out simply for his color.

Sensing that an updraft nearby could help him, Nolinth curved off to the left slightly. For a brief moment he disappeared into a bank of clouds, but he emerged like a shot, using the winds to help propel his sleek body forward.

Oh? Hesriath asked, rolling over in the air to look at the males. Nolinth was gaining on her and Maraxith wasn't too far behind. She didn't know where Thortoth was until a shadow moved to her bottom right. Erupting from the cloud clover, the ocean hued blue dragon cut off Maraxith so sharply that the cobalt had to bank hard left to avoid him. Maraxith scream of frustration split the air asunder but Thortoth only chortled in victory. It was no small thing for a blue dragon to outmaneuver a cobalt but Thortoth was large for his color and fast. Maraxith and Nolinth might dwarf him in size but Thortoth was quick on his wings and feet.  

Maraxith for his part would not be undone. Not by a smaller male, not by a blue from a rival Weyr. If he lost at all, which he had no intention of ding, it would be to Nolinth. Only a bronze could rival a cobalt. The plum dragon dragon redoubled his efforts and bounded after the blood red female.

Thortoth's antics amused Nolinth much more than they did Maraxith, and he took the opportunity of the two other males being focused on each other for that brief moment to execute a barrel roll. It did no him good in gaining on the carnelian, but Nolinth was a show off after all.

On the ground Jah'vi grinned, seeing all that Nolinth saw. Thortoth was a worthy opponent, true, and Maraxith had proven to be the better flyer before. But the cobalt was focused more on the blue, leaving Nolinth with plenty of opportunities.

Opportunities that Nolinth saw and took advantage of. Ignoring Maraxith and Thortoth for the moment, he stretched himself to get as close to Hesriath as he could.

They seem more interested in each other than you, he said to her with humor. You have all of my attention, my gorgeous scarlet darling!

You! You are a popinjay! Maraxith snarled. Kin of his blood or not, to which Maraxith himself had no clue, he would not be brandied and baited. He checked his wings and pushed hard and rocketed forward. He caught poor Thortoth by surprise, overtaking him. The blue bugled in surprise, dropping suddenly as the cobalt passed him. The huge plum wings buffeted the much small male and Thortoth had to peel off wide to avoid being thrown completely off balance.

Hesriath did not want to be caught by Maraxith; she could hardly bear her clutch sib. There was no love lost between Ashrah and Casriel. She pushed upward hard, eating up cloud cover and air until fire seemed to sing in her sinew. She snaked her head under one wing to see if she had lost Maraxith.

Ha! You purple menace! Thortoth was no cobalt but he was a finer dragon than you! You will not have me this day nor any day I fly!

Nolinth seized the moment he had been waiting for, when Hesriath was distracted by Maraxith and Thortoth, to flip his wings and bring him up alongside her. Who needs them anyway? he cooed, curling his neck around her's and opening his wings to slow their fall.

Jah'vi's eyes snapped open on the ground, and his wolfish smile took on a new sharpness as he approached Ashrah. "Good flight," he murmured, pulling her close and claiming a deep kiss for his bronze's flying. Casriel's fury was practically a solid mass, and he couldn't help but smirk. Let her think what she wanted, he thought, guiding Ashrah back into her weyr for some privacy. Only he knew the true reason he'd been nearby.

Hesriath immediately surrendered to those strong, bronze wings with a deep, throaty croon. She was well pleased with Nolinth and leaned into his embrace eagerly.

Ah Nolinth. she purred.

Ashrah smiled up at Jah'vi and fell into his kiss eagerly, needfully. She was blind to the others as she let the bronzerider lead her into her weyr.

Maraxith shrieked angrily to the sky and Casriel's vision seemed as red as his eyes. She, however, would have hers. She always had hers. So it was T'kal who was shocked when Casriel crossed the distance, hooked her thumb into his belt and pulled him to her.

"Pretty boy, you're mine." she growled, her tone somewhere between lusty and furious. If T'kal had a protest, it died on his lips as Casriel rolled her hips against his, nipping his lower lip.

'Faranth, she looks so much like Asteriel.' he thought. The golden beauty he could never have.

'Day dreaming patsy.' Casriel thought. She hooked a leg inside of his and pushing under his center of gravity, send the bluerider tumbling to the earth before. He hardly resisted her, his hands trembling as the caressed her thighs. Casriel kissed him hard, one hand fumbling for his pants. Oh yes, she would have her's and he would limp home, as sore as she would be sated.

Casriel would see to it personally.
